Waterside cargo handling increases by 6.79 percent in June 2021

In June 2021, a total of 551,889 tons of goods were transshipped on the waterside in the Mannheim ports. That is 6.79 percent more than in June 2020 with a tonnage of 516,789 tons.

The good result is due in particular to an increase in the following goods classes: In the iron, steel and non-ferrous metals sector, throughput rose from 14,661 tons to 33,081 tons (+18,420 tons, +125.64 percent). In the other food and feed goods class, throughput rose to 156,416 tonnes (+43,115 tonnes, +38.10 percent). The third strongest increase was recorded in the goods class vehicles, machines, other semi-finished and finished goods and special transport goods with an increase of 11,626 tons (+24.22 percent) to 59,637 tons.

The water-side container traffic increased by 850 TEU from 6,638 TEU in June 2020 to a total of 7,488 TEU (+12.81 percent).

The tonnage rose from 62,722 tons in the same month last year by 7,274 tons to 69,996 tons (+11.60 percent).

The average water level in June at the Mannheim Rhine gauge was 3.84 meters and thus 1.19 meters above the average level in June of the previous year of 2.65 meters. Goods were handled by a total of 520 ships. This is 22 ships less than in the previous year.
