Waterside cargo handling declined in March

In March 2021, a total of 620,284 tons of goods were transshipped on the waterside in the Mannheim ports. The throughput fell from 673,996 tons in the previous year by 53,712 tons (- 7.97 percent).

The goods groups stone and earth (+ 26.47 percent, + 14,575 tons), chemical products (+ 24.47 percent, + 12,946 tons) and vehicles, machines, other semi-finished and finished goods, special transport goods (+ 10, 31 percent, + 5,976 tons).

The handling of goods in the goods groups crude oil, mineral oil, mineral products, gases (- 35.82 percent, – 31,275 tons) as well as agricultural, forestry and other products (- 34.12 percent, – 7,382 tons) was affected the most.

The waterside container traffic totaled 85,743 tons in March 2021. The tonnage thus increased by 6,168 tons (+ 7.75 percent) from 79,575 tons in the same month of the previous year. In March 2021, a total of 9,355 TEU (20-foot container) were loaded and unloaded on the waterside. This is 635 TEU (+ 7.28 percent) more than in the same month last year with 8,720 TEU.

The average water level in March 2021 at Rhine level Mannheim was 2.66 meters and thus 1.23 meters below the average level in March 2020 of 3.89 meters.
