Waterside cargo handling increases in February 2021 compared to the same month last year

In February, a total of 572,834 tons of goods were handled in the Mannheim ports, which is 3.61 percent more than in February 2020 (552,900 tons).

Among the goods handled, the solid mineral fuels group posted the largest percentage increase. The throughput increased from 98,063 tons in the same month last year by 92,151 tons to a total of 190,214 tons (+ 93.97 percent). The iron, steel and non-ferrous metal goods group also saw an increase of 8,268 tonnes (+ 61.75 percent). The handling of goods in the goods group crude oil, mineral oil, mineral products, gases was most severely affected, with a decrease of 26,850 tonnes (- 42.95 percent).

The waterside container traffic in February totaled 58,297 tons. The tonnage thus decreased by 17,208 tons (- 22.79 percent) from 75,505 tons in the same month of the previous year. In relation to 20-foot containers, throughput fell by 17.63 percent, from 7,045 TEU in 2020 to 5,803 TEU in 2021.

The average water level in February at Mannheim level was 4.77 meters and thus 0.71 meters above the average level in February of the previous year of 4.06 meters.
