Waterside cargo handling is stable in December
In December 2020, a total of 656,595 tons of goods were transshipped on the waterside in the Mannheim ports. The throughput rose from 647,065 tons in the previous year by 9,530 tons (+ 1.47 percent).
There was an increase in the goods groups agricultural, forestry and other products (+ 152.15 percent, + 15,011 tons), chemical products (+ 63.69 percent, + 30,948 tons) and ores and metal waste (+ 60.46 percent, + 16,491 tons).
The waterside container traffic in December totaled 76,003 tons. The tonnage thus decreased by 2,193 tons (- 2.8 percent) from 78,196 tons in the same month of the previous year. In December 2020, a total of 8,171 TEU (20-foot containers) were loaded and unloaded on the waterside. This is 57 TEU (+ 0.7 percent) more than in the previous month with 8,114 TEU.
The average water level in December 2020 at Rhine level Mannheim was 2.27 meters and thus 0.95 meters below the average level in December 2019 of 3.22 meters.
